Apples are one of the most popular and widely-consumed fruits on the planet, and there’s no coincidence here:

They provide us with many health benefits and taste great.
The old saying goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” holds a lot of truth.
Here are the four greatest benefits of eating an apple a day.
1. Apples may improve brain health
Research here has primarily been done on animals, but there are a few human trials, as well.
It appears that apples and natural apple juice can reduce harmful reactive oxygen species in the brain and reduce mental decline.
2. Apples may promote good gut bacteria
Apples are an excellent dietary addition because they are rich in fiber - a nutrient which many people don’t get enough of.
Some notable research from the last few years suggests that apple consumption contributes to a healthy gut by boosting good gut bacteria.
3. Apples are good for heart health
Research seems to suggest that regular apple consumption is linked to lower risk of heart disease.
A possible explanation here is the polyphenols found in apples. These little guys are responsible for many health benefits including lower blood pressure and a lower risk of stroke.
Another contributing factor here could be soluble fiber which apples are filled with. It’s been shown to help lower blood cholesterol levels which undoubtedly reduces the risk of heart disease down the line.
4. Apples are highly nutritious and low in calories
Apples are the perfect weight loss and general health snack because they are incredibly low in calories, highly satiating and rich in essential nutrients.
A medium-sized apple (about 150 grams) has fewer than 80 calories, nearly 4 grams of fiber, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E and K, as well as potassium, some copper, and small amounts of manganese.
It’s worth noting that the apple skin contains a big percentage of these nutrients and you shouldn’t peel it off.
