An invisible force works in the background of our lives and ultimately shapes us. Some of us spend days, weeks, months, even years not thinking or caring about it.

But whether we care or not, it works in silence and capitalizes on our daily choices.

Care to know what this force is?

It’s our nutrition.

Good and well-balanced diet is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle, provides important vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to keep the body and mind strong and healthy. Combined with physical activity, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, provide energy, allow better sleep, improve brain function and promote your overall health.

Eating unhealthy food on a regular basis In the short term, can contribute to stress, tiredness and our capacity to work, on long term can lead to an increased risk of obesity and chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and some cancers

Today, we’ll take a look at the importance of this invisible force and why it’s a good idea to replace unhealthy meals for healthy alternatives.

First Thing’s First: It’s Not Unpleasant

Many people correlate eating healthy with eating bland. That’s far from the truth. Or, at least, it can be with a bit of creativity.

Like most things, eating healthy comes down to habit. With a bit of thought, you can replace unhealthy foods for their healthy alternatives and still enjoy your nutrition to the fullest.

Here are some examples:

  • Candy, sugars, and regular chocolate for dark chocolate.

  • Bagels and other pastries for rice crackers and rice cakes.

  • Beer and spirits for wine.

  • Ice creams for frozen yogurt.

  • Regular chips for sweet potato wedges.

The list goes on and on.

You Lose Weight Easily

Weight loss is an incredibly beneficial thing, especially considering the rising obesity epidemic. Being overweight or obese has been linked to dozens of health problems including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and poor immunity.

Healthy foods also tend to be highly satiating and lower in calories. Meaning, we can satisfy our cravings and hunger with less food, consume fewer calories, and lose weight much more easily.

You Feel and Look Better

Let’s face it, we all want to look and feel better. No matter who you are and what your goals in life are, you want to walk around with your head held high and your energy through the roof.

Switching to healthier foods helps improve our energy on two fronts:

First, weight loss itself makes it easier and less strenuous for us to move around - we naturally move more, participate in more activities, and are more social.

Secondly, consuming more vitamins, minerals, slow-digesting carbs, protein, and healthy fats work their magic and provide us with a steady stream of energy throughout the day.
